Certificate of deposit account balances between $2,000 and $14,000 receive an annual percentage yield of 1.25 percent. Certificate of deposit account balances between $15,000 and $24,999 receive an annual percentage yield of 1.75 percent.
MetLife Bank has been around since 2001 and is the banking arm of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. All deposits are FDIC insured up to $250,000 until December 31, 2013.
After this date, FDIC insurance will return to $100,000 per depositor for each account category except Traditional and Roth IRAs (and other certain retirement accounts), which will remain at $250,000 per depositor.
MetLife Bank is also offering 9 month CD rates that have an annual percentage yield of 1.65 percent for balances of $25,000 and over. The bank is also offering a money market account that has an annual percentage yield of 1.50 percent for account balances of $25,000 and over.
Update 6/16/12: MetLife Bank CD rates have decreased since 2009 since the Fed has kept the Fed Funds rate at zero percent for four years now. Current MetLife Bank CD rates on 12 month certificates of deposit are going for 1.04 percent with 1.05 APY.
