Savings rates and money market rates on accounts in California and the rest of the United States are so low right now but will hopefully increase sometime in 2011. Right now on our account rate table in California the highest rates on accounts are from Sallie Mae Bank and American Express Bank. Both banks are offering a savings rate of 1.29 percent and a yield of 1.30 percent on their online accounts. Amex doesn't have a minimum opening account balance and Sallie's is only $1.

Discover Bank is close behind with the second highest rate on our CA list. Discover Bank is currently offering a rate of 1.24 percent and a yield of 1.25 percent on their online account for savings. The minimum opening deposit is $500.

WTDirect comes in with the third bset rate. WTDirect's current account rate is 1.20 percent with a yeild of 1.21 percent. The minimum opening deposit for WTDirect's online account is $10,000.
