Online Savings Account Rates January 6, 2013: Best Savings Rates at 1.00 Percent

The best online savings rates available on account balances of $10,000 are at 0.52 percent on our rate tables. The FDIC national average savings account rates is considerably less at 0.07 percent.

The highest savings rates on our rate list remain unchanged this week at 1.00 percent. We have two different banks offering current savings interest rates at 1.00 percent - Barclays Bank and CIT Bank. Barclays Bank has a minimum opening deposit for their account at $1,000 and CIT Bank has a minimum opening deposit of $25,000.

The second best savings rate available on our rate list for January 6, 2013 are slightly under 1.00 percent but still much higher than the average rates. The second best online savings rate on our list is week is from Ally Bank at 0.95 percent. If you're just starting out with your savings and don't have the funds to open a higher balance account with CIT Bank or Barclays Bank, opening an account with Ally might be a better alternative for you. There is no minimum opening deposit for an Ally Bank savings account.

Moving onto the third best savings rates on our rate list, Colorado Federal Savings Bank is offering a current rate of 0.85 percent. CFSB's minimum opening deposit is $2,500 Right behind CFSB we find two banks are tied with the fourth highest rate on our list this week. Current Discover Bank savings rates and current Bank of Internet savings rates are both at 0.80 percent. Bank of Internet has a minimum opening deposit of $100 and Discover Bank's minimum opening deposit is $500.

The fifth best rate on our savings rate list this week is from one of the originators of the online savings account. ING Direct is offering their rate at 0.75 percent this week. The minimum opening deposit for a savings account at ING Direct is only $1.

The sixth highest savings interest rate in our rate database is from two different banks. Heartland Bank Direct and First Trade Union Bank are both offering current rates at 0.70 percent. The minimum opening deposit at Heartland Bank Direct is $500 and the minimum opening deposit at First Trade Union Bank is $250.
