Long Term Jumbo CD Rates: Best 5 Year Rates at 1.80% APY
best CD rates on jumbo certificates of deposit are slightly above regular CD rates as margins are squeezed by the Federal Reserve, forcing banks to lower rates. This week the highest jumbo CD rates are about 5 to 10 basis points above the highest regular CD rates. The difference in the FDIC's national average regular rates and jumbo rates is even smaller.
In the FDIC national rate survey for the week ending February 11, 2013, average 5 year rates were at 0.81 percent and average 5 year jumbo rates were at 0.82 percent. Several years ago, before the recession, many banks were offering jumbo rates 50 to 100 basis points above regular rates.
This week the highest CD rate in our 5 year CD rate database is from CIT Bank and Nationwide Bank at 1.83 percent with an APY of 1.85 percent. Both banks are offering their jumbo rate more than 100 basis points higher than the national average rate.
