HSBC Advance, the online banking division of HSBC formerly known as HSBC Direct, is offering an online savings account rate that is more than double the national average savings account rate. The bank’s current savings account rate is 1.24 percent with an annual percentage yield of 1.25 percent.

HSBC doesn’t have the best online savings account rate but the rate is certainly competitive. The national average savings account/money market account rate is around .53 percent for account balances of $10,000 or more.

The minimum opening account deposit for HSBC’s high yield savings is only $1.00. Online savings accounts are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) for up to $250,000 per depositor per account.
