The average five year certificate of deposit rate has been under 3.00 for most of the year. Back in the summer of 2008 you could find 12 months CD rates paying more than 3.00 percent.

Average CD Rates
3 month rates are at 0.532 percent this week, down from last week’s average rate of 0.537 percent.
6 month CD interest rates are at 0.784 percent, down from the prior week’s average rate of 0.790 percent.
12 month certificate of deposit rates are averaging 1.057 percent, down from the previous week’s average rate of 1.066 percent.
18 month CD rates are averaging 1.223 percent, up from last week’s average rate of 1.232 percent.
24 month rates are averaging 1.530 percent this week, down from the previous week’s average of 1.538 percent.
36 month CD interest rates are at 1.854 percent, down from the prior week’s average of 1.860 percent.
48 month CD rates are averaging 2.080 percent, down from last week’s average rate of 2.087 percent.
60 month certificate of deposits are averaging 2.360 percent, down from the prior week’s average rate of 2.367 percent.
